Initiative 20x20 is a regional partnership bringing together 43 technical organizations and institutions, 21 private investors and the governments of 17 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. The initiative harnesses the expertise and capacity of partners to forward the implementation of restoration and conservation efforts across the region, towards the goal of restoring 20 million hectares of degraded land by 2020. As the acting secretariat to Initiative 20x20, the World Resources Institute facilitates the dialogue between governments, civil society, and the private sector to build an effective coalition that can achieve the initiative’s goals.
MAJOR MEMBER UPDATES
APRIL 2018. Government partners have so far committed to restore 50 million hectares of land and projects covering 10 million hectares are already underway. The fourth annual meeting of the partnership in Lima called for global climate funds to increase finance for restoration and conservation to bring about net zero carbon emissions across the region.
COUNTRIES. national governments, regions and programs spanning more than one country, who commit to restore and conserve hectares of land, as well as any policy and strategy in support of restoration and conservation.
FINANCIAL PARTNER. private sector who earmark investment for restoration, including impact investors and companies financing restoration projects.
TECHNICAL PARTNER. organizations and institutions providing expertise and research supporting the implementation of restoration and conservation across the region
